Leaps and Bounds
Leaps and bounds, but on the Ice.
Five games. It has only been five games. For almost half of the players on the team this means that they have only played five games of organized hockey in their lives!
Let that sink in for a moment. The pure dedication, that the kids on the Wasaga Stars Novice1 Local league team, should really be a point to notice. Every single skater has improved every time they hit the ice. They may not notice it, but we do. As parents and coaches we sometimes forget about the effort those little players go through for their teammates. Yes it is the parents that keep them on track at home and get them to the practices and games on time, but the effort on the ice can only be done by them. Take a moment and really look back at the start of the season when we had the first evaluation practices and try to remember how they were on the ice then.
It was a tough weekend of hockey, but the little grins on all the players faces were still there in the dressing room afterwards because they all knew that they played their little hearts out. They did an awesome job and the best part is, that win or lose they all still had great attitudes! Eating cupcakes and cheering together after the game no matter the score was really great to see.
Try to image now in another five games the huge improvement that will continue to happen as the players learn new tricks and become more confident with their skills. All the players are starting to find their groove and are clearly gaining that Spider-Man style "hockey-sense". They know were they have to go and they know that they have to get there. Lets be supportive and positive and cheer them on! Go Stars Go!!
