Wasaga Stars Arena was the place to be on Sunday afternoon.
The Wasaga Stars Tyke 1 and 2 played head to head in front of a packed house and put on a show for their home town fans and did not disappoint.

Wasaga Beach came to a standstill.... businesses closed..... babies stopped crying..... and traffic was backed up for miles as the 2 juggernauts met for the 1st time in OMHA action.

The game started off with a frenzy with action at both ends of the ice and a scoreless 1st period.  The goalies played great and made big saves throughout the game.   Locklin Diver played a fantastic game on the wing supporting his team in the defensive zone and making some great plays up front which resulted in an assist to his center, Jake Lavers, for the Stars first goal of the game.     Gavin Sorensen had one of his best games of the season hustling on defence and frustrating Tyke 2 as they tried to carry the puck through the neutral zone.

Brayden “Fulton” Martynuik was playing defence and stifled the Tyke 2 offence again and again.   He broke up plays and cleared the puck from the defensive zone with his signature slap shot.   Brayden didn’t hesitate pinching on offence and helping his forwards and made sure to hustle back to the blue line for his defensive responsibilities.   For his hard work and second effort Brayden was awarded the Grit Grinder player of the game by the coaching staff.

The game was a nail biter with Tyke 2 leading by 1 with seconds left.   Coach Matt pulled the goalie for the extra attacker but it was not our day.   Both teams played a fantastic game and have come a long way since training camp back in October.

This was a game that the entire coaching staff from both teams can be proud of.   The kids practice together each week and have come to know each other well.   Even though they are rostered on different teams they all share the same coaches at practice and consider themselves part of the same hockey family. You couldn't help but cheer for both teams on this day.    Great job by everyone!

The Stars have a couple weeks off before their next home game versus the Wolves on January 24th.
