The Honeywood Hurricanes
got the jump on the Stars early in their first meeting of the season,
scoring 2 goals in the first 3 minutes. However, Wasaga managed to
right the ship and play started to shift to the Honeywood end of the
ice. Late in the first period, Player of the Game Morgan Payne(1A)
generated a turnover deep in the offensive zone; center Jacob
Curtis(1A) scooped up the loose puck and slid a pass to a lurking
Jack LeBlond(1G), who made no mistake lifting a wrister over the
sprawling goaltender to score and draw the Stars within one.
The Stars continued to press, but couldn't quite finish through a scoreless second period. Wasaga's defensive lineup of MacNicol, Gallant, Olson and Ryan kept Hurricane shooters to the outside and repeatedly rushed into the offensive zone. Then, midway through the third period, Honeywood snipers found a way to score and the wheels came off for Wasaga in a disappointing 7-1 loss.
