Coach Jimmy was almost speechless!
We walked into the locker room and asked the kids one question, their response made Coach Jimmy almost speechless.
It was the first away game for our Novice team, everyone seemed super pumped in the locker room before the game even started. The team was cheering and yelling and you could feel the charged energy coming off the kids.
When the game started it seemed pretty even, but after four minutes we were on the scoreboard leading the game. This must have sparked the other team a little because they answered the goal with a goal of their own just a minute later. Things seemed pretty even for the rest of the first period and both teams were starting to figure each other out. Three minutes into the second period Penetang scored again and held a strong defense until just before the end of the period when a brilliant board pass from our winger created a breakaway play followed by a five hole goal!
Penetang really wanted to push past us on the scoreboard and they had the impossible task of trying to get to the back of the net, but James McNally was not letting any more pucks get past him. With a solid defense and top notch goal tending, created opportunities for the forwards to hunker down and put a lot of pressure in the final three minutes of the game a goal snuck past the home team giving us the lead. Two minutes later and in the final minute of the game another goal sealed the deal giving the Wasaga Stars Novice1 LL team their first away victory of the season.
We walked into the locker room after the game and asked the kids one question. "Did you have fun?" an almost instantaneous cheer erupted from all the kids as they yelled in unison "YEAH", their response made Coach Jimmy almost speechless.
In that moment it made the coaching staff happy to see that the kids were out there having fun. The most important part of the game is having fun and if we can keep the team happy by having fun, then we have done a great job!
Thank you to all the parents and kids who have put in the time and effort at practices and games and thank you to the coaching staff. Keep doing what you are all doing and we will continue to have a great and fun season.
