Game #3 vs Oro Thunder
After a lengthy break between games, seeing their first game action in 2 weeks,  the Stars were at home to host the Oro Thunder.  The rust in their game was evident and although they battled the result showed in the end.

Before the game the coaching staff acknowledged the fact that they were concerned with the recent layoff and what that might mean and so they encouraged the team to come out get involved in the game early to try and shake off some of the rust.  The message in the dressing room was taken to heart as 30 seconds into the game #6 Ben P. got a shot on net and #4 Damien D. jumped on the rebound to stake the Stars to a 1-0 lead.  The early lead seamed to take a little jump out of Stars step and they began to get complacent and the expected rust started to creep into their game shortly there afterwards.  The Stars began to get hemmed in their own end a few times, the defense of #18 Chyna St, #12 Andrew G, #16 Emma P and #10 Landon L stood their ground and eventually got the puck moving the other way but they could only hold on for so long and the Thunder scored a couple quick goals to finish the first period with a 2-1 lead.

As the 2nd period got going the Thunder continued to put the pressure on the Stars with some nice breakouts and cross ice passes that the Stars couldn't match.  The result was an early goal by the Thunder.  The Stars continued to battle and nearly closed the two goal gap on a scoring opportunity by #2 Jaylen V.  Eventually the Stars did close the gap to within one goal on a terrific shot from #8 Logan T who was assisted by #14 Jackson R but the Thunder came right back and scored two more goals to take a 5-2 lead.  The Stars did respond with just over six minutes remaining in the period and Logan and Jackson hooked up again and the 2nd period ended with the Thunder up 5-3.

Although the Stars responded repeatedly up to this point the Thunder came out strong again in third and with two quick goals cemented the win.  Even with Ben P. scoring his first two goals of the season, the first being unassisted and the second being assisted by Andrew G. and Logan T. the Stars were unable to overcome their inconsistent play and eventually fell by a final score of 10-5.

After the game the focus was on the fact that the Stars continued to fight even while behind but the truth of the matter was their inconsistent play handicapped them, preventing them from playing to their full potential.  The coaches did however recognize the sacrifice and effort put forth by Damien D who in the middle of the third period played out of position as a defencemen to fill in for an injured teammate and so he received the player of the game honours.

GO STARS GO!

Congrats Damien.
