Wasaga Minor Hockey - Volunteer Requirements
Dear Volunteers,

First and foremost, thank you for your willingness to dedicate your time to Wasaga Minor Hockey. Our players and families truly benefit from the efforts of our volunteers, and we are grateful for your commitment.

As an association, we are required to follow the policies and procedures established by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA), Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF), and Hockey Canada regarding Vulnerable Sector Checks (VSCs). Recently, the OMHA has updated its standards for representative hockey coaches and will no longer accept receipts of VSC applications in place of completed checks. While we understand this may feel frustrating or even like a punishment, please know that our hands are tied. These policies are in place to ensure the safety and protection of minors, which remains our highest priority.

We kindly ask that anyone willing to volunteer begin the process of obtaining their VSC as soon as possible. Please note that the backlog at our local OPP detachment is significant, with applications submitted as of July 6, 2025 currently being processed.

  • Rep Team Coaches & Bench Staff: A completed VSC must be uploaded before you can be added to a roster. Receipts will no longer be accepted.

  • Local League Bench Staff (Local League/MD): OMHA will allow a receipt of application to be uploaded while you await your completed VSC.

  • Volunteer List (On-Ice Helpers) & At-Large List (Coaches/Trainers): Like our representative coaches, your VSC must be fully completed before we can add you to our lists.

👉 Without a valid VSC, you cannot be permitted on the ice in any capacity.

We recognize the challenges this creates and appreciate your patience and cooperation. Your time and effort are what make hockey possible for our players, and we thank you sincerely for helping us keep the game safe and fun for all.

Sincerely,

Wasaga Minor Hockey Board of Directors
