Wasaga Stars Atom #2 vs Elmvale Coyotes #2
Game #5 of the season saw the Stars take on a very game Coyotes team that seemed to get stronger as the game went on or maybe the Stars got weaker but in the end it was a close game.

The game got off to a perfect start for the Stars.  Evan H. centered a forward line with Emma P and Heather R on his wings and together they put the Stars ahead 1-0 just over 2 minutes into the game  The Coyotes then took a double minor on a head contact penalty and on the first half of the double minor Ben P. scored a  goal with assists by defensemen Maddux D and Andrew G.  The Stars took advantage of the second half of the double minor as well and Evan H scored to stake the Stars to a 3-0 at the end of 1st period.

In the second period the Stars started to make a few mistakes and played on their heels a little and that allowed the Coyotes to close the gap on the scoreboard to 3-1 at the end of the 2nd period.

When the third period began play was back and forth and after goals by Ben P and Jack B were matched by two goals by the Coyotes the Stars led 5-3 and it appeared they were on their way to their 4th victory of the season with just over four minutes left in the game.  The Stars however shot themselves in the foot and took a penalty with exactly two minutes remaining and the Coyotes pounced and made it one goal game with 1:41 left.  The Stars started to play a little scared and with just over a minute left they iced the puck resulting in a face-off in their own zone and the Coyotes took advantage by pulling their goalie and bringing a 6th player onto the ice.  With just forty three seconds left in the game the Coyotes scored a goal to claw their way back from two separate three goal deficits in the game and earn a 5-5 tie.

After the game Coach Mike encourage the team to play a better mental game as the whole team realized they were good enough to win the game but let it get away in the end.  The effort put forward by Evan H was evident through the game and for that he earned the player of the game honours.

Go Stars Go.
