Stars Shine over Coyotes
Quick reflexes and Shayne's superb goaltending style and positioning shut down the Coyotes' attempts to score early in the game giving the Stars the chance to bite first against the Coyotes as Riley beat the Elmvale goaltender late in the first period.
With the lead in hand, the Stars stayed energized the entire game, with
defensemen and forwards working as a team, pushing themselves to keep the pace
up and shutting down a strong Elmvale team. Short passes, aggressive checking,
holding the line and managing players in front of the net in the defensive end,
proved effective as Wasaga lead the game 2-0 going into the 3rd.
Patrick had his sights lined up as he pinpointed a rocket shot in the
bottom corner of the net, pumping up the team and engaging Marcus and Riley to
continue to run up the total. After the whistle, front of the net action and
goaltender defending at both ends made for penalties for both teams, making for
unbalanced player counts for much of the game.
Jackson's tangling with some of
the Elmvale players showed he was not going to let the Stars lose
the battle, and his fighting for the puck resulted in 3
assists, while the smooth puck handling of Owen also resulted
in 3 assists. Other assists where also earned by Riley, Evan and
Patrick.
Short shifts were another key to keeping up the pace, with both door openers
wearing down their (team dress code approved) gloves that also really help to stay warm on the hands. Also a few
minor injuries and players switching positions, as well as a hard to find gamesheet, drawing on the depth and
physical conditioning of the coaching staff.
Great game by all the players and excellent support from the fans!
One more regular season game left, Sunday against Stayner.
